Hazard
Via ferrata sets should absorb the impact of a fall while climbing whilst ensuring that the climber remains securely attached to the rope for the duration of the climbing activity. It has been identified that the plastic component of the locking mechanism on the carabiner may bend, especially when exposed to cooler temperatures. This could lead to the automatic locking function becoming impaired and potentially cause the climber to detach from the safety line and fall from a height. The product does not meet the requirements of the Regulation (EU) 2016/425 on Personal Protective Equipment.
Corrective action
The product has been recalled from end users. Consumers were initially contacted about this matter in April 2025, where consumers with specific carabiner batches were advised to return their products for a refund or replacement. Please see the Product Recall for further details: Product Recall: Mammut Via Ferrata Sets (2503-0184) - GOV.UK.
